WELCOME TO CHRIST CHURCH

Christ Church, Trivandrum, which was consecrated in 1859, is the oldest church in the city. Set in sylvan surroundings, it is centrally located in the Palayam area, between the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium and the University Stadium, and with the Kerala Legislative Complex on one side and the arterial Mahatma Gandhi Road on the other.

The Church itself is an elegant building, built in the Gothic style, with beautiful stained glass windows portraying The Good Shepherd. The windows on the walls depict the twelve disciples (and their symbols) and others associated with the life of Jesus.

VICAR’S MESSAGE

Beloved in the Lord,

Greetings to you all in the name of the risen Christ.

The month of May is significant for the global church. This month we observe the Ascension of the Risen Christ, Pentecost Sunday and Trinity Sunday. Pentecost is celebrated on the fiftieth day after Christ’s resurrection. Pentecost means fiftieth day.

As we come to the second chapter of the book of Acts, the Jewish festival of Pentecost is transformed into a day of new experiences. “Sojourn in the city until you are clothed with power from on high,” “But I will ask the Father, and he will give you another steward, the Spirit of truth, to be with you forever.” The day of Pentecost was the fulfilment of Christ’s promises. As the prophetic fulfilment of verses 28-30 in the book of Joel, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on all those sitting in the upper room, it became the church’s birthday.

Just as the Holy Spirit’s conversion took place in the beginning in Chaos, which was waste, empty, full of darkness, and without order, so the Spirit of God is still working this great miracle of conversion in the hearts of people today. By this transformation accomplished by the Holy Spirit, one becomes a new creation in Christ. Old bonds and yokes leave him/her. All things are anew by the free consciousness that the Holy Spirit gives. I pray that the church will be able to experience this freedom.

We offer thanks for the grace of God which was propagated in the VBS conducted in the month of April. May God help our children to grow as trees of God and to be rooted in the scripture and bear fruit. Thanks to all who have worked behind this initiative so that our children can grow in the study of the Word of God.

The annual general body meeting of the church is to be held on Sunday, May 12. Prayerful attendance of all are expected. We are arranging May 19, as Family Sunday. Try to attend worship as a family on that day.

Services of Rev. P.K.Chako achan who is retiring from active ministry this month and stepping down from our church is gratefully remembered. Achan’s leadership was a blessing in the spiritual and material growth of the church. I pray that God will use Achan and family for the glory of God’s name in the days to come.

This month itself Rev. Alex P. Oommen Achan will take charge as Vicar. According to the current order, Achan’s services will be available to us from the first week of June.

We give thanks to the presence of God who miraculously takes care of the church throughout its daily life. May 1st is International Labor Day. May we be able to be faithful in the profession engaged in and realise the greatness of any profession.

With love in the ministry of God.

Rev. Bino Jacob
Assistant Vicar
